Caribou, ME – A cold front moving across northern and eastern Maine Thursday, Oct. 8, will bring scattered to numerous rain showers, with isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible in northern areas before precipitation ends Thursday evening.
The National Weather Service in Caribou said Thursday morning that additional rainfall will generally total less than one quarter inch, limiting expected accumulations despite widespread opportunities for showers.
Afternoon temperatures will vary across the region, with Caribou expected to reach approximately 59 degrees and Presque Isle near 60 degrees. Farther north, Fort Kent is forecast to reach around 59 degrees, while St. Pamphile will see highs near 55 degrees.
Across eastern Maine, Houlton is expected to reach approximately 60 degrees, while Calais and Eastport could see temperatures in the lower 60s.
Warmer conditions are forecast farther south, with Bangor reaching the middle 60s.
The greatest potential for isolated thunderstorms will be across northern portions of the forecast area during the afternoon. The weather service did not indicate widespread severe weather in its outlook.
Showers are expected to diminish and end Thursday evening as the cold front moves through the region.
Friday, Oct. 9, will bring cooler temperatures across much of northern Maine. Caribou is forecast to reach approximately 55 degrees, while Fort Kent will see highs near 53 degrees. Houlton and Presque Isle are expected to reach the middle to upper 50s.
Bangor could reach around 60 degrees Friday, while coastal communities including Eastport remain near 60 degrees.
Another chance of rain showers is forecast Friday, although the weather service did not provide specific rainfall probabilities or amounts in its outlook.
Residents across northern and eastern Maine should expect occasional wet conditions Thursday, a possible afternoon thunderstorm in northern areas, and cooler weather Friday with another opportunity for showers.
