Caribou, ME – Maine residents should prepare for another round of unsettled weather this weekend as a developing storm system threatens to bring rain, possible snow across northern communities and gusty winds that could exceed 40 mph in some locations Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, rain will continue Tuesday night, Oct. 13, before gradually ending Wednesday, Oct. 14. Forecasters expect a brief period of quieter weather Thursday before the next system arrives Friday.
Snow Possible Across Northern Maine
The approaching storm could bring a mixture of precipitation beginning Friday, Oct. 16, with snow possible across northern Maine Friday night into Saturday, Oct. 17.
Communities across Aroostook County, including Caribou, Presque Isle and Fort Kent, could experience wintry precipitation depending on temperatures and the storm's eventual track.
Forecasters emphasize that snowfall amounts and the exact locations most likely to receive snow remain uncertain.
Elsewhere across the region, precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain.
Strongest Winds Expected Saturday
In addition to precipitation, the Weather Service is monitoring the potential for strong wind gusts Saturday.
Forecast guidance indicates a possibility of gusts exceeding 40 mph in portions of Maine, although the probability varies considerably by location.
Gusty conditions could make travel more difficult, particularly on exposed roads and in areas experiencing rain or snow.
Brief Break Before Weekend Storm
Rain from the current system should end Wednesday, generally progressing from southwest to northeast during the morning and early afternoon.
Thursday, Oct. 15, is expected to bring clearer skies and afternoon temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s.
Colder temperatures are expected Saturday as the next storm moves through.
Residents planning weekend travel should monitor updated forecasts, particularly across northern Maine, where precipitation type and snowfall totals could change as the system approaches.
