Caribou, ME – A persistent stretch of dry weather across northern and eastern Maine is expected to end this week as two separate periods of rainfall move through the region, with the second system potentially delivering more than an inch of rain between Thursday, November 5, and Sunday, November 8.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, increasing clouds and unusually mild temperatures will dominate Monday, November 2, before intermittent rain develops Monday night and continues into Wednesday morning.
Monday afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the lower to middle 60s, with a few sprinkles possible before more widespread precipitation arrives.
The first round of rainfall will affect northern Maine beginning Monday night, with showers continuing Tuesday, November 3, into Wednesday, November 4.
Forecasters expect approximately one half inch to 1 inch of rainfall across northern areas , while Downeast communities may receive considerably less.
Locations including Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Kent and Van Buren could receive between 0.5 and 0.8 inches during the initial system.
Farther south, communities including Bangor, Ellsworth and Bar Harbor are forecast to receive generally lighter rainfall, with some locations seeing around 0.1 to 0.2 inches.
Rain chances will temporarily decrease Thursday, November 5, before another unsettled weather pattern develops late Thursday into Friday.
The National Weather Service indicates a 50%–60% probability of rainfall exceeding 1 inch during the late week period, extending into early Sunday, November 8.
However, forecasters emphasize that confidence remains low regarding exact rainfall totals and timing.
Confidence is considerably higher that additional precipitation will occur at some point during the extended period.
Residents across northern and eastern Maine should prepare for multiple rounds of wet weather, potentially affecting travel and outdoor activities.
The anticipated rainfall could provide moisture to areas experiencing the recent persistent dry pattern.
No specific flooding threat is identified in the supplied outlook.
