Caribou, ME – Maine residents are facing an extended stretch of unsettled weather beginning Tuesday, Nov. 3, as persistent rainfall continues through Wednesday before another potentially significant round of rain arrives Friday and lasts into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a slow moving frontal boundary is producing widespread rainfall across central portions of northern and eastern Maine early Tuesday, with lighter showers spreading southward toward the coast.
Northern Maine Faces Heaviest Rain Through Wednesday Forecasters expect the rain producing boundary to shift northward later Tuesday into Tuesday night, concentrating the heaviest rainfall across northern Maine.
Communities including Fort Kent, Caribou, Presque Isle and surrounding areas could receive approximately 0.5 to 1 inch of rainfall through Wednesday afternoon.
Farther south, locations including Bangor, Ellsworth and coastal Downeast communities are expected to receive lighter amounts, generally around 0.1 to 0.2 inches.
The National Weather Service expresses high confidence in the first round of rainfall, with northern areas expected to receive the greatest totals.
Another Round of Rain Possible Friday Through Sunday After a brief break Thursday, Nov. 5, another weather system could bring measurable rainfall beginning Friday and continuing into early Sunday.
This second round may particularly affect the Downeast region.
Forecast probabilities for receiving at least 1 inch of rain between Saturday and Saturday night reach approximately 76% near Rockland, 73% near Calais and 71% near Ellsworth.
Bangor faces approximately a 65% probability of reaching that amount.
Although confidence is increasing that additional rainfall will occur, forecasters emphasize that exact timing and totals remain uncertain.
Residents traveling along Interstate 95, U.S. Route 1 and other regional highways should monitor forecasts for wet roadways and reduced visibility during periods of rain.
Additional National Weather Service updates will help clarify the weekend rainfall threat.
