Caribou, ME – Northern and eastern Maine will turn drier Wednesday and Thursday before another weather system brings a chance of rain and gustier winds late Thursday into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a few scattered showers will move through the region Tuesday evening before clearing out overnight. High pressure building northward from the south will then promote mainly dry conditions Wednesday into Thursday.
Clouds will remain around despite the drier pattern, with daytime highs generally reaching the lower 70s.
Conditions begin changing again late Thursday as low pressure approaches from the west. The system and its associated front are expected to bring the region's next opportunity for rain into Friday.
Forecasters cautioned that uncertainty remains over the exact timing of the system and when precipitation will reach individual communities. The NWS forecast graphic shows rain chances increasing Friday across parts of northern, central and Downeast Maine, including areas around Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Bangor and Bar Harbor.
Winds will also become more noticeable before the rain arrives. The pressure difference between the departing high and approaching low is expected to produce gusty conditions Thursday and Friday afternoon, with higher gusts generally favored across northern Maine.
No significant precipitation is expected during the middle of the week, allowing Wednesday and much of Thursday to remain dry across the region.
Residents should expect scattered showers to end Tuesday night, followed by a dry but cloudy Wednesday and Thursday. Forecast updates will help determine the timing and coverage of Friday's rain as the approaching system moves closer.
