CARIBOU, Maine — Northern Maine will see a sharp early November temperature swing this week, with Caribou climbing to around 60 degrees Monday before rain and cooler weather arrive Tuesday, followed by another warm rebound Thursday.
Caribou Municipal Airport was reporting 36 degrees early Sunday, Nov. 1. The National Weather Service forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 52 Sunday before temperatures fall to around 39 Sunday night. Monday then jumps to approximately 60 degrees under partly sunny skies.
60° Monday Before Wetter Turn Monday's warmth comes with west winds of 9 to 13 mph, including gusts up to around 23 mph. Temperatures fall to roughly 36 Monday night as clouds increase and a slight rain chance develops after 3 a.m.
Tuesday becomes noticeably cooler, with a high near 49 and a 40% chance of rain during the afternoon. The more organized wet period arrives Tuesday night, when the Weather Service places rain chances at 90% and temperatures remain near 40.
Rain continues into Wednesday morning with an 80% precipitation chance and a high near 56. South winds could gust as high as 22 mph before rain chances decrease Wednesday night.
62° Rebound Thursday The temperature pattern then swings upward again.
Thursday is forecast to reach around 62 degrees , with only a 30% chance of rain developing after 4 p.m. Rain chances increase again Thursday night before a cooler high near 57 Friday.
By Saturday, temperatures fall back closer to 50 with another chance of rain.
That sequence gives northern Maine a distinctly changeable first week of November: 52 Sunday, 60 Monday, 49 Tuesday, 56 Wednesday and 62 Thursday.
November Warmth Still Favored Despite the cooler and wetter interruption Tuesday and Wednesday, NOAA's broader outlook continues to favor above normal temperatures across the Northeast during Nov. 8–14 .
The Northeast guidance specifically identifies November warmth as the dominant extended theme and cautions that short term chilly periods do not invalidate the larger warm signal.
That does not mean Caribou will avoid freezes, cold fronts or early season snow through Nov. 14. It means average temperatures during that period are favored to finish above normal.
For northern Maine, that keeps the seasonal question alive as Thanksgiving travel season approaches: when will the first sustained taste of winter finally arrive?
