CARIBOU, ME – A sharp return to chilly weather could bring the season's wintry feel to northern Maine on Tuesday, Oct. 13, as rain and snow become possible during the morning. The changing conditions could affect early travel around Caribou and surrounding Aroostook County communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a mixture of rain and snow is possible before 11 a.m. Tuesday, followed by increasingly likely rainfall. The precipitation chance reaches 60%, with afternoon temperatures struggling to reach 47 degrees.
The cooler conditions follow Sunday's expected high of 62 degrees, representing a 15 degree drop in daytime temperatures.
While the forecast does not specify snow accumulation, motorists should monitor conditions before Tuesday's morning commute, particularly in colder locations.
Before the unsettled weather arrives, widespread frost is expected Sunday morning, Oct. 11, between 8 and 10 a.m.
Temperatures will fall near 26 degrees overnight before rebounding to approximately 62 degrees Sunday afternoon. Southwest winds could gust to 25 mph.
Sunday night remains mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping near 47 degrees.
Monday, Oct. 12, brings increasing clouds and a 40% chance of showers, mainly after 11 a.m. Temperatures reach approximately 57 degrees, with gusts approaching 26 mph.
Monday night turns colder, with lows near 30 degrees.
Tuesday's rain continues into the evening, when precipitation chances climb to 90%. Temperatures fall near 34 degrees overnight.
Wednesday, Oct. 14, remains unsettled, with a 70% chance of rain and highs near 51 degrees.
Five Day Outlook: Thursday turns partly sunny and breezy, reaching 50 degrees. Friday remains mostly sunny near 50, although rain becomes likely overnight. Saturday brings a 40% rain chance and highs near 50 degrees.
