Caribou, ME – Northern Maine faces a sharp blast of cold weather Saturday, October 17, with scattered snow showers possible, wind gusts reaching 35 mph and overnight temperatures plunging into the lower 20s. Wind chills could fall into the teens across northern communities, making this one of the coldest nights of the fall season so far.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, Saturday temperatures will struggle to reach the 40s across northern Maine, while southern portions of the forecast area could climb into the 50s.
Gusty winds will accompany the colder air throughout Saturday, with isolated snow showers possible across northern communities during the afternoon.
Areas around Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Kent and surrounding portions of Aroostook County could experience the wintry conditions before winds gradually weaken Saturday night.
Temperatures Plunge Saturday Night
The Weather Service forecasts widespread overnight lows in the 20s and lower 30s.
Caribou could fall to approximately 23 degrees, while Presque Isle reaches 23 degrees and Fort Kent drops near 24 degrees.

Farther south, Bangor is forecast near 30 degrees, while coastal communities such as Bar Harbor could remain closer to 34 degrees.

Warmer, Drier Conditions Next Week
Sunday should bring slightly warmer temperatures, followed by highs generally in the 40s and 50s Monday through the remainder of the week.
High pressure is expected to dominate, limiting precipitation opportunities.
October 22–26 Extended Weather Outlook
NOAA's Climate Prediction Center favors above normal temperatures across Maine during October 22–26, suggesting a warmer pattern could develop following Saturday's cold snap.
The precipitation outlook places Maine near a transition between below normal and near normal conditions, with no strong signal for widespread precipitation.
Although warmer temperatures are favored, chilly overnight conditions remain possible.
Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts for changing temperatures and any additional snow shower potential.
