Caribou, ME – Rain chances will increase across northern Maine through Thursday, Oct. 8, when showers become likely and an afternoon thunderstorm will also be possible in northern areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, northern Maine has a slight chance to chance of rain Wednesday. Rain chances will persist mainly across northern sections Wednesday night before becoming more widespread Thursday.
The NWS expects showers to be likely Thursday. Northern areas will also have a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm, though the outlook does not indicate severe weather.
Temperatures will rise somewhat as the wetter weather arrives. Wednesday highs are generally in the lower to middle 50s across northern Maine, including about 55 degrees at Caribou and 54 at Fort Kent. Presque Isle is forecast near 55.
Thursday turns milder. Caribou is forecast to reach about 60 degrees, while Presque Isle reaches around 61. Fort Kent is forecast near 58, with some locations farther south climbing into the lower to middle 60s.
Higher terrain will remain considerably cooler. Mount Katahdin is shown around 39 degrees Wednesday and 44 Thursday.
The NWS outlook does not provide expected rainfall amounts or specific precipitation probabilities, so the amount of rain remains uncertain. It also limits the thunderstorm potential to a slight chance Thursday afternoon across northern areas.
Residents should expect rain chances to increase Wednesday night, with Thursday bringing the best opportunity for showers and a small chance of afternoon thunder across northern Maine.
