CARIBOU, ME — Northern Maine is approaching November with freezing overnight temperatures already in the forecast, as Caribou prepares for lows in the 20s and daytime highs that could struggle to escape the 40s later this week. The colder conditions raise questions about what residents can expect as October ends and November begins.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, its eight to 14 day outlook issued Oct. 18 covers Oct. 26–Nov. 1, 2026. The outlook identifies whether average temperatures and precipitation totals are favored to finish above, near or below seasonal norms. Maine's specific categories and probabilities from those maps have not yet been verified for this report.
Freezing Temperatures Return to Northern Maine The National Weather Service forecast for Caribou shows a significant temperature change during the coming days.
Monday, Oct. 19, is expected to bring sunshine and a high near 60 degrees, following an early morning temperature of 34 degrees at Caribou Municipal Airport.
However, temperatures are forecast to drop to around 35 degrees Monday night before reaching only 50 degrees Tuesday.
By Tuesday night, temperatures could fall to approximately 27 degrees, bringing freezing conditions to the Caribou area.
Wednesday is expected to reach 52 degrees, followed by another overnight low near 27 degrees.
These temperatures could create concerns for residents with sensitive outdoor plants, exposed garden vegetation and other items vulnerable to freezing conditions.
Although the forecast supports freezing temperatures, the supplied information does not establish an active frost advisory or freeze warning for Caribou.
Another Cold Spell Arrives Before the Weekend Thursday, Oct. 22, is forecast to bring a high near 51 degrees, with patchy morning fog giving way to mostly sunny conditions.
Northwest winds could gust as high as 26 mph during the afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to fall to around 30 degrees Thursday night.
Friday could feel noticeably colder, with a forecast high of only 44 degrees despite mostly sunny skies.
The coldest overnight temperature in the supplied seven day forecast arrives Friday night, when Caribou could drop to approximately 24 degrees.
Saturday is expected to reach 49 degrees before temperatures fall back to around 28 degrees overnight.
By Sunday, Oct. 25, mostly sunny skies and a high near 56 degrees are forecast.
What Maine's November Weather Outlook Means Caribou's location in Aroostook County makes its autumn weather different from conditions along Maine's southern coastline.
Northern communities such as Caribou and Presque Isle can experience freezing temperatures while coastal locations, including Portland, remain comparatively mild.
However, the extended outlook must be evaluated separately from the upcoming freezing nights.
The Climate Prediction Center's temperature map is needed to determine whether colder than normal conditions are favored across northern Maine during Oct. 26–Nov. 1.
Its precipitation map is also necessary to assess whether the state is favored to experience wetter or drier conditions during the same period.
The current Caribou forecast does not establish snowfall during the upcoming week, and the extended outlook alone cannot determine whether snow will occur as November begins.
For now, residents should prepare for several freezing nights, including a possible low near 24 degrees Friday night.
Updated forecasts will help clarify whether the colder weather continues into November or gives way to a milder pattern.
Are you ready for freezing temperatures in northern Maine, or were you hoping for a few more mild autumn days before November?
