Hancock County, ME Body Recovered Tuesday After 9-Day Search

Blue Hill, ME – A nine day search for an 82 year old man missing in Blue Hill ended Tuesday after authorities recovered his body from the water in Hancock County, southeast of Bangor.
According to the Hancock County Sheriff ’s Office, deputies initially received a report of a missing person in Blue Hill on Sept. 20. Information gathered during the investigation led authorities to believe the man had fallen into the water from his boat.
Officials identified the missing man as James Kannry, 82, who had residences in Virginia and Blue Hill, Maine.
The Maine Marine Patrol assisted the sheriff’s office with an extensive search of the waters where Kannry was believed to have entered. Authorities said Marine Patrol personnel searched for several days using boats, aircraft and a remotely operated underwater vehicle.
The Maine State Dive Team also searched the area but was unable to locate him. The Maine Warden Service joined the investigation and searched around Kannry’s residence with one of its K 9 teams, also without success.
On Tuesday, the Hancock County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a body in the water in Blue Hill. The location was approximately five miles by water from where investigators believed Kannry had entered the water.
Members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Warden Service and Blue Hill Fire Department responded and recovered the body. Authorities said the individual was subsequently identified as Kannry.
The sheriff’s office described the case in its Tuesday release as a death investigation involving a drowning. The release did not provide additional information about a formal cause of death determination.
The sheriff’s office thanked the agencies that assisted throughout the investigation and search efforts and offered condolences to Kannry’s family and friends.
