Bangor, ME – A wet weekend is taking shape across eastern Maine as an approaching coastal storm threatens to bring more than 2 inches of rain to parts of the Downeast region, with steady rainfall expected from Friday night through Saturday and additional showers continuing Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a developing coastal low pressure system will bring widespread rainfall beginning Friday afternoon, November 6, with the heaviest amounts expected across coastal and interior Downeast Maine.
Forecasters expect at least 1 inch of rainfall across much of the Downeast region, while some coastal communities could receive more than 2 inches before the system moves away.
Areas near Ellsworth, Calais, Bangor and surrounding communities face varying rainfall probabilities, with the greatest potential for significant accumulations concentrated farther southeast.
The National Weather Service estimates a 93% chance of exceeding 1 inch in Ellsworth and a 92% chance in Calais through Saturday. Rockland carries an 88% probability, while Bangor has a 76% chance.
The probability of rainfall exceeding 2 inches is lower but remains notable, particularly near Calais, where forecasters indicate a 56% chance.
Friday will begin unusually mild for November, with afternoon temperatures reaching the 60s across much of the forecast area.
Scattered morning showers will shift east before steadier rainfall spreads northward during the afternoon and evening.
The heaviest rainfall is expected Friday night through Saturday, potentially creating ponding on roads and reduced visibility during periods of heavier precipitation.
By Sunday, the main storm system should move east of Maine, although wraparound showers are expected to continue across the region.
Forecasters emphasize that rainfall amounts farther north remain uncertain and will depend on the storm's exact track.
