Turkey Creek, LA – Two men have been arrested on felony drug charges following a Louisiana State Police investigation that began after a 17 year old was found dead at his Turkey Creek residence in September.
According to Louisiana State Police, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division's Breaux Bridge Field Office were asked by the Turkey Creek Police Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of 17 year old Taylon Hebert on Sept. 19.
The preliminary investigation indicated Hebert had purchased over the counter herbal supplement pills from Tobacco Tavern the day before his death, police said. During the investigation, Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office deputies reportedly seized similar pills from the same location.
With assistance from Louisiana Alcohol and Tobacco Control and the Sheriff's Office, detectives executed a search warrant at Tobacco Tavern. Investigators said they seized additional herbal supplement pills suspected of containing a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance, along with other evidence.
Authorities subsequently obtained arrest warrants for business owner Musa Saleh Salem, 34, and employee Ghaleb Mohammed Mousa, 29, both of New Iberia. Police allege both men committed distribution of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance.
Mousa was arrested Sept. 24 and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail. Salem was arrested the following day and was also booked into the jail.
State police did not state in the release that the pills caused Hebert's death. The investigation remains active, and authorities said no additional information is currently available.
Louisiana State Police encouraged residents to report suspicious activity to law enforcement or the LSP Suspicious Activity Hotline at 1 800 434 8007.
The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
