Shreveport, LA – Residents across northern Louisiana and portions of the ArkLaTex face elevated wildfire danger Thursday, October 29, before increasing rain chances bring potentially wet conditions for Halloween activities Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, dry air, drought conditions and dry vegetation are creating an environment favorable for wildfire ignition through at least 7 p.m. Thursday.
Forecasters also expect rain chances to increase Saturday, October 31, with the greatest likelihood during the afternoon before precipitation chances generally decrease after sunset.
Elevated Fire Danger Through Thursday Evening
The Weather Service forecasts east to southeast winds averaging 5 to 10 mph, with relative humidity between 29% and 40%.
Elevated fire danger covers portions of northern Louisiana, southwestern Arkansas and adjacent areas of the ArkLaTex, including locations near Shreveport, Monroe, Natchitoches, Texarkana and El Dorado.
Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarettes and secure trailer chains that could produce sparks.
Drivers should also avoid parking vehicles over tall, dry grass and follow local burn restrictions.
Halloween Rain Chances Highest During Afternoon
Saturday afternoon rain chances range from approximately 40% to 60% across many communities.
The forecast indicates a 48% rain chance in Shreveport, 39% in Monroe, 61% in Texarkana and 50% in El Dorado.
By Saturday evening, rain chances are expected to decrease across most areas.
Shreveport's precipitation probability falls to approximately 23%, while Monroe remains near 41% and Texarkana near 39%.
What Families Should Expect
The forecast suggests Halloween trick or treating conditions may improve after sunset in many communities, although scattered rain remains possible.
Families planning outdoor activities should monitor updated forecasts and prepare for potentially wet conditions, especially during afternoon events.
The Weather Service advises residents to continue following local burn ban guidance despite the approaching rain.
