According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, September was the warmest on record at several of its climate sites, while the remaining locations ranked among their five warmest Septembers.
Shreveport recorded an average temperature of 84.2 degrees, breaking the previous September record of 83.7 degrees set in 2019. Temperature records there date to 1874.
In Texas, Tyler averaged 84.8 degrees, narrowly surpassing its previous record of 84.7 degrees from 2019. Records at Tyler date to 1883.
Longview had the highest monthly average among the listed climate sites at 85.1 degrees. That broke its previous September record of 84.3 degrees, set in 1939. Longview records date to 1902.
Texarkana, Arkansas, also established a new record with an average temperature of 84.4 degrees. The previous record was 84.3 degrees from 1939, with records dating to 1892.
Other locations came close to their records. El Dorado, Arkansas, averaged 83.1 degrees, tying the temperature of the previous record year, 1925, while ranking second in the NWS summary. Monroe, Louisiana, averaged 83.5 degrees, ranking third, and Lufkin, Texas, averaged 82.5 degrees, ranking fourth.
The monthly average temperature reflects both daily maximum and minimum temperatures.
With September complete, the NWS figures show the month's warmth was widespread across its Four State Region climate sites, with all seven locations finishing among their five warmest Septembers on record.
