Lake Charles, LA – Sunshine and temperatures approaching 90 degrees may disguise a continuing flood threat across southwest Louisiana. River flooding could affect low lying roads in Calcasieu Parish through Tuesday, October 13, creating hazards for motorists despite otherwise dry weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, Flood Warnings remain active along the Calcasieu River near White Oak Park and the Salt Water Barrier. Minor flooding is forecast at both locations, with warnings extending into Tuesday.
Flooding Threatens Two Roadways
Near White Oak Park, forecasters expect minor flooding along Goos Ferry Road when the river reaches its 2 foot flood stage.
The river stood at 2 feet Saturday evening and was forecast to briefly rise to approximately 2.1 feet Sunday morning.
Farther downstream, the Calcasieu River near the Salt Water Barrier could reach its 4 foot flood stage Sunday, potentially flooding marshland and portions of River Road in north Lake Charles.
The National Weather Service urges drivers to avoid flooded roads and never bypass barricades.
Sunny Weather Does Not Eliminate Flooding
Lake Charles should remain sunny Sunday, October 11, with temperatures reaching 89 degrees.
Columbus Day, Monday, October 12, brings additional sunshine and a high near 91 degrees.
Despite the dry forecast, elevated river levels could continue affecting vulnerable roads.
Tuesday, October 13, brings a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10 a.m., with highs near 91 degrees.
Warm, Dry Conditions Continue
Wednesday and Thursday should remain sunny, with highs around 91 degrees.
Friday reaches approximately 90 degrees before Saturday cools to 80 degrees.
Residents near the Calcasieu River should monitor water levels and local road conditions until the warnings expire.
