Lake Charles, LA – Louisiana residents will gain an extra hour of sleep overnight Saturday, October 31, as daylight saving time officially ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 1, bringing earlier sunsets and a return to Central Standard Time across the state.
According to the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles, residents should remember to set their clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night. The annual time change coincides with Halloween weekend, giving many families an additional hour overnight.
At exactly 2 a.m. Sunday, clocks will move backward to 1 a.m., officially ending daylight saving time for 2026.
The change affects communities throughout Louisiana, including Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Alexandria and Shreveport.
Most smartphones, computers and other internet connected devices will update automatically. However, traditional clocks, vehicle dashboards, ovens, microwaves and some household appliances may require manual adjustments.
The return to standard time means sunrise will occur approximately one hour earlier by the clock, while sunsets will also shift earlier.
For residents commuting home from work or school, the change will bring darker conditions during late afternoon and early evening hours.
Drivers should remain mindful of changing visibility conditions, especially near schools, intersections and residential neighborhoods.
The time adjustment also provides an opportunity for households to check smoke alarms, replace batteries when needed and review emergency preparedness supplies.
Daylight saving time begins again Sunday, March 14, 2027, when clocks will move forward one hour.
For now, Louisiana residents can enjoy an extra hour overnight as the state transitions into its wintertime schedule.
The National Weather Service encourages everyone to remember the simple seasonal reminder: fall back one hour before heading to bed Saturday night.
