Baton Rouge, LA – Louisiana may see more summerlike warmth linger into the heart of October, with temperatures favored to run above normal Oct. 12 18 as the overall pattern also leans wetter.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across Louisiana during the seven day period. Above normal precipitation is also favored.
Warm weather itself is typical for Louisiana in October, so the outlook does not necessarily point to exceptional heat. Instead, temperatures averaged over the week have better odds of finishing above the already warm seasonal norms for mid October.
From Shreveport and Monroe to Baton Rouge and New Orleans, that could keep the transition toward consistently cooler fall weather moving slowly. Northern Louisiana can typically experience more noticeable nighttime cooling, while areas closer to the Gulf often remain warmer overnight.
The CPC outlook does not provide specific daily highs or lows, so exact temperatures cannot yet be determined.
Rain could become a more noticeable part of the pattern. Above normal precipitation is favored for Oct. 12 18, but that does not mean Louisiana will see rain every day. CPC does not specify rainfall totals, individual weather systems or the timing of wet periods at this range.
For Louisiana, the broad mid October signal is continued warmth with a wetter than normal lean , rather than an early season push toward sustained cool weather.
Residents should watch shorter range National Weather Service forecasts as Oct. 12 approaches for specific temperatures, rain chances and the timing of any systems that could affect the state.
