Paducah, KY – Residents across western Kentucky are preparing for some of the coldest temperatures of the fall season this weekend, with overnight lows potentially dropping into the upper 20s as a cold front moves through the region Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, temperatures will remain slightly above normal through Thursday before a mainly dry cold front brings a significant cooldown heading into Friday and the weekend.
Thursday will feature relatively mild conditions, with afternoon highs ranging from 63 to 68 degrees across the forecast area. Overnight temperatures will initially remain between 41 and 50 degrees.
By Friday, cooler air will settle across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeastern Missouri and southwestern Indiana. Afternoon highs are expected to range from 55 to 62 degrees, with nighttime lows falling between 38 and 45 degrees.
Saturday morning will bring an increased risk of frost, with temperatures forecast between 29 and 37 degrees. Afternoon highs will struggle to reach the upper 50s, ranging from 52 to 57 degrees.
The coldest conditions are expected Sunday and Monday mornings, when regional overnight lows could fall between 27 and 35 degrees.
These temperatures could threaten sensitive outdoor vegetation, particularly in locations where readings fall below freezing for several hours.
Residents should consider bringing potted plants indoors, protecting vulnerable vegetation and disconnecting outdoor garden hoses before the coldest mornings arrive.
Despite the chilly mornings, afternoon temperatures will gradually improve. Sunday highs are expected between 57 and 63 degrees.
A warming trend begins Monday, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the 60s and potentially reaching 67 degrees.
The National Weather Service indicates that the cold front will be mainly dry, limiting precipitation concerns while bringing the coolest air of the season so far.
