Paducah, KY – Halloween weekend plans across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeast Missouri and southwest Indiana could face interruptions as a wetter weather pattern develops Saturday, Oct. 31, with additional rounds of rain and thunderstorms possible into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, warm and dry conditions are expected to continue through Friday before showers begin spreading northeast across the Quad State region Saturday and Sunday.
The first round of rain could affect Halloween activities, although the timing and intensity will vary by location.
Areas of southeast Missouri west of Poplar Bluff and Greenville have the best chance of remaining mostly dry during late afternoon and early evening trick or treating.
Forecasters expect heavier and more persistent rainfall to hold off until late Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
A few thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon and overnight, but the greatest rain chances are expected later in the evening.
Weekend rainfall totals are currently forecast to remain at or below approximately half an inch across the region.
Rain chances increase Saturday night into Sunday, with probabilities reaching around 50% to 60% in several communities, including Paducah, Cape Girardeau and Murray.
The unsettled pattern may continue into the beginning of November.
A potentially stronger storm system is expected to develop across the Plains Monday into Tuesday, Nov. 2 3, although its exact track and timing remain uncertain.
The Weather Service says multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms could accompany that system, bringing a greater potential for heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms than the weekend's initial round.
Residents planning Halloween celebrations, weekend travel or outdoor activities should monitor updated forecasts as the timing becomes clearer.
Drivers may encounter wet roads and reduced visibility during periods of heavier rainfall.
While widespread severe weather is not currently guaranteed, forecasters are closely monitoring the developing system for possible impacts early next week.
