Paducah, KY – A sharp blast of cold air is bringing two consecutive nights of freezing temperatures to portions of Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky and Indiana this weekend, threatening gardens, outdoor plants and the remaining growing season.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a cold front moving through the region Friday, Nov. 6, is expected to send overnight temperatures into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Forecasters have issued a Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory for Friday night, followed by a Freeze Watch for Saturday night.
The first round of dangerous cold begins Friday night.
A Freeze Warning covers portions of southeastern Missouri and southern and southwestern Illinois, while a Frost Advisory includes additional areas of southeastern Missouri, southern Illinois, southern Indiana and western Kentucky.
Both alerts are scheduled from 11 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday.
Communities near Carbondale, Cape Girardeau, Mount Vernon, Evansville, Madisonville and Murray are among those in the broader affected region, although specific alert classifications vary by location.
Another freezing night is expected Saturday.
The National Weather Service has also issued a Freeze Watch from 11 p.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday across much of the four state region.
Forecasters warn that freezing temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning could effectively end the growing season in affected communities.
Residents should protect sensitive plants, bring vulnerable potted vegetation indoors and take precautions to prevent frost damage.
Despite the cold mornings, afternoon conditions should remain relatively pleasant. Saturday highs are forecast around 55 to 57 degrees, followed by sunshine and highs near 60 to 63 degrees Sunday.
A noticeable warmup arrives Monday, with temperatures climbing into the middle and upper 60s, potentially reaching 70 degrees.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts and local alerts at weather.gov/pah , as warning boundaries and temperatures may change.
