Paducah, KY – Residents across western Kentucky and the Lower Ohio Valley can learn more about El Niño and how it could influence winter weather during a public webinar later this month.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the online event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. CDT and will be presented by meteorologist Sean Poulos.
The webinar will focus on what El Niño is and how the climate pattern could affect weather across the Lower Ohio Valley during the upcoming winter season.
NWS Paducah said the event is open to the public. Registration information has also been sent to partner organizations and weather spotters.
El Niño refers to periodic warming of ocean waters in the central and eastern tropical Pacific. Those changes can influence atmospheric patterns and, in turn, affect temperature and precipitation trends across parts of the United States.
The exact effects can vary by region and from one El Niño event to another, which is why local National Weather Service offices often provide regional guidance as winter approaches.
For communities in western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeast Missouri and southwest Indiana, the webinar offers a chance to hear directly from a National Weather Service meteorologist about what forecasters are watching.
The presentation will begin at 7 p.m. CDT on Oct. 27. Those interested can register through the link shared by NWS Paducah or by scanning the QR code included in the agency’s announcement.
