Paducah, KY – Residents across western Kentucky and surrounding portions of the Ohio Valley face a wet and breezy Saturday as the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Isaias bring widespread rain, wind gusts approaching 30 mph and the possibility of localized heavy downpours through early Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, showers and scattered thunderstorms will spread northward across the region Saturday, October 10, with the most active weather expected during the afternoon and evening.
Rainfall totals are forecast to range from approximately one quarter inch to 1 inch across much of the area , although localized amounts could be higher, particularly across western Kentucky.
Communities around Hopkinsville, Murray and Madisonville could receive some of the heaviest rainfall, with localized totals approaching 1.5 inches.
Farther west, including portions of southern Illinois and southeastern Missouri, rainfall amounts are expected to be lighter as the remnants of Isaias follow a more easterly track.
Wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph are also possible Saturday, especially during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will remain cooler than earlier forecasts, with afternoon highs generally in the 70s.
The Weather Service says the system's eastward track has reduced the potential for significant impacts, although brief heavy rainfall and gusty conditions remain concerns.
Showers and thunderstorms should gradually diminish from west to east late Saturday evening through Sunday morning.
A dramatic temperature rebound is expected early next week.
By Monday, October 12, temperatures could climb into the middle and upper 80s, with some communities approaching 90 degrees.
Tuesday is expected to remain unusually warm, with near record to record temperatures possible in portions of the region.
Residents traveling Saturday should prepare for wet roadways, reduced visibility during heavier showers and occasional gusty winds.
