Paducah, KY – Residents across western Kentucky and surrounding areas could experience a dramatic weather swing this week, with near record temperatures approaching 95 degrees Tuesday, followed by thunderstorms and a sharp cooldown that could send afternoon highs into the lower 60s by Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Paducah, near record to record breaking warmth is expected Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13, before an unsettled weather pattern brings multiple opportunities for showers and thunderstorms through Thursday.
Near Record Heat Could Reach 95 Degrees
Sunday begins with improving conditions as skies become sunny and afternoon temperatures range from 75 degrees in eastern portions of the forecast area to 91 degrees farther west.
Monday brings a significant warmup, with highs between 85 and 93 degrees.
Temperatures could climb even higher Tuesday, reaching 88 to 95 degrees across the region, potentially challenging daily temperature records.
The unusually warm conditions will extend into Tuesday night, with overnight lows ranging from 64 to 71 degrees.
Thunderstorm Chances Increase Midweek
The weather pattern changes Tuesday night into Wednesday as showers and some thunderstorms move into the region.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 40% to 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday, with highs between 84 and 91 degrees.
Additional storms remain possible Thursday, with precipitation chances ranging from 30% to 60% and highs between 79 and 87 degrees.
Temperatures Could Drop More Than 30 Degrees
By Friday, cooler air begins moving into the region, lowering afternoon highs to 68 to 76 degrees.
Saturday brings an even more noticeable change, with highs expected to reach only 60 to 65 degrees, well below normal for mid October.
Some locations could experience a temperature difference of approximately 30 degrees between Tuesday's peak warmth and Saturday's afternoon highs.
Residents should prepare for rapidly changing temperatures, monitor thunderstorm forecasts and plan accordingly for a much cooler weekend.
