Louisville, KY – The remnants of Hurricane Isaias are expected to bring widespread rainfall and gusty winds across central Kentucky and southern Indiana Saturday, Oct. 10, with localized rainfall totals potentially reaching 3 inches and wind gusts approaching 40 mph in southern Kentucky.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, rain is expected to develop Saturday morning across southern Kentucky before spreading northward through the afternoon.
Forecasters expect widespread rainfall totals of 0.50 to 1.50 inches, with heavier bands potentially producing localized amounts between 1 and 3 inches, particularly east of Interstate 65.
The latest forecast indicates rainfall amounts have trended slightly lower, with lighter totals generally expected north and west of Louisville.
Rainfall probabilities also vary considerably across the region. The weather service estimates a 37% chance of exceeding 1 inch in Louisville, compared with 56% in Lexington, 55% in Bowling Green and 78% in Lafayette, Tennessee.
Showers should initially be light Saturday morning before heavier rainfall and a few thunderstorms develop during the afternoon and evening.
Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected across the forecast area, while portions of southern Kentucky could experience gusts reaching 40 mph.
Despite the approaching tropical remnants, forecasters indicate the overall severe weather threat remains low.
Ongoing abnormally dry conditions are also expected to limit the flooding threat, although locally heavier rainfall remains possible where showers repeatedly move across the same communities.
The weather service currently has medium confidence in both rainfall amounts and timing, reflecting continued uncertainty surrounding the storm's eventual impacts.
Residents across Louisville, Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, Lexington and surrounding communities should prepare for changing weather conditions Saturday.
The most widespread rainfall is expected Saturday afternoon and evening, with gusty winds accompanying the remnants as they move northward through the Ohio Valley.
