Louisville, KY – Residents across north central Kentucky are facing a significant temperature change this weekend, with morning lows potentially falling into the upper 20s as colder air settles across the Louisville metropolitan area and surrounding communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, lingering rain showers and a few embedded thunderstorms will move east Wednesday evening, followed by patchy drizzle and gradually improving conditions overnight.
Temperatures Wednesday night are expected to remain between 49 and 53 degrees across the forecast region.
Thursday will bring a noticeable improvement, with mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs ranging from 65 to 69 degrees.
However, the warmer conditions will not last.
By Friday, temperatures will begin trending downward, with afternoon highs between 58 and 65 degrees. A stray shower remains possible, although partly sunny skies are expected for much of the day.
Friday night temperatures could fall between 40 and 46 degrees.
Saturday will bring another cooldown, with highs ranging from 53 to 58 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
The National Weather Service forecasts Saturday morning lows between 31 and 38 degrees, creating favorable conditions for frost in some locations.
The coldest temperatures are expected Sunday morning, when regional lows could drop between 28 and 35 degrees.
A freeze will be possible in locations falling below 32 degrees, particularly outside warmer urban areas.
Residents across Jefferson County and neighboring Kentucky communities should consider protecting sensitive plants and monitoring overnight temperatures.
Sunday afternoon will offer some improvement, with mostly sunny skies and highs between 55 and 60 degrees.
Although the weekend is expected to remain largely dry, the sharp overnight cooldown could bring the first significant frost or freeze concerns of the period to portions of the region.
Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts for any frost or freeze advisories as Sunday approaches.
