Louisville, KY – Strong wind gusts reaching 40 mph could affect Louisville and surrounding communities Tuesday, Nov. 3, before a developing storm system brings showers and isolated thunderstorms across Kentucky and southern Indiana overnight into Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a robust low pressure system moving eastward from the central United States will bring increasingly windy conditions to the Ohio Valley, followed by widespread rain chances through Wednesday afternoon.
Tuesday Brings Strong Winds and Warmer Temperatures
Tuesday will begin relatively dry, but strengthening southerly winds will push temperatures into the upper 70s across the region.
Forecasters expect widespread wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph, with scattered locations potentially experiencing gusts between 30 and 40 mph from midmorning through the afternoon.
The gusty conditions could make travel more difficult for drivers of high profile vehicles, particularly along exposed stretches of Interstate 65, Interstate 64 and Interstate 71.
Residents should also secure lightweight outdoor decorations and other loose objects before winds increase.
Rain and Thunderstorms Arrive Overnight
Rain chances will increase after midnight Tuesday, continuing through Wednesday, Nov. 4.
The National Weather Service expects showers and isolated thunderstorms to affect communities including Louisville, Frankfort, Elizabethtown and Bowling Green, along with portions of southern Indiana.
Forecast rainfall totals generally range from approximately 0.75 inches in southern Indiana to 1.5 inches across southern Kentucky.
Some communities could experience periods of heavier rainfall, potentially creating ponding on roads and reduced visibility during Wednesday's commute.
Wednesday Afternoon Outlook
Rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue through Wednesday afternoon before conditions begin improving.
Although gusty winds and periods of heavier rain could disrupt outdoor activities and travel, the forecast does not indicate a widespread severe weather outbreak.
Residents across the Louisville metropolitan area should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts as the system approaches.
