Louisville, KY – Kentucky residents are facing a dramatic weather shift this week as unusually warm October temperatures approach 90 degrees before thunderstorms move into the region and a sharp cooldown arrives by Friday, October 16.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, unseasonably warm conditions will dominate the beginning of the week, followed by multiple opportunities for rain and thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday. Cooler air is then expected to push across the region, bringing a noticeable temperature drop heading into the weekend.
Monday, October 12, begins with areas of morning fog before warmer and drier conditions take over. Afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach 81 to 88 degrees, with somewhat cooler conditions across eastern portions of the forecast area.
Tuesday could bring the week's warmest weather, with afternoon highs climbing between 86 and 90 degrees.
By Wednesday, October 14, conditions begin changing as rain chances increase and scattered thunderstorms become possible. Temperatures will remain unusually warm, reaching 85 to 88 degrees.
Thursday brings another opportunity for showers and thunderstorms, with highs ranging from 80 to 89 degrees before cooler air begins replacing the warmth.
The biggest change arrives Friday, October 16, when afternoon highs are expected to fall into the 68 to 72 degree range.
That represents a potential temperature difference of nearly 20 degrees compared with Tuesday's warmest readings.
The changing forecast could affect outdoor activities, travel plans and weekend events across central Kentucky and southern Indiana.
While thunderstorms are possible Wednesday and Thursday, the National Weather Service has not indicated a specific severe weather threat in this forecast update.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts as the timing and coverage of rain become clearer.
