Louisville, KY – Kentucky is moving deeper into October, but the first frost remains out of the immediate forecast as cool nights give way to another stretch of 80 degree afternoons.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, mostly clear skies and pleasant temperatures will dominate the beginning of the week. Overnight lows will fall into the 40s, but no frost or freeze threat is indicated in the five day forecast.
The cooler nights are a reminder that Kentucky is approaching the part of fall when residents increasingly watch for the season’s first frost. Timing varies by location and year, however, and temperatures in the current forecast remain above frost levels.
Sunday will be sunny with highs ranging from 76 to 79 degrees. Monday brings a modest cooldown, with afternoon temperatures of 71 to 76.
Tuesday remains sunny with highs from 73 to 79 before another warming trend takes hold.
By Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to climb well above typical frost producing levels, with highs ranging from 80 to 84 degrees. Thursday stays warm with highs of 79 to 83.
Despite the warm afternoons, nights will feel more like fall early in the week. The NWS expects overnight temperatures to fall into the 40s, creating chilly starts before temperatures rebound during the day.
For Kentuckians waiting for the first frost of the season, this week does not appear to bring it. The Louisville region should instead see mostly clear skies, cool nights and increasingly warm afternoons, with residents needing to watch later October forecasts for the next significant push of colder air.
