LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Open enrollment for 2027 health insurance begins Sunday, Nov. 1, giving Kentucky residents an opportunity to compare plans, review premiums and determine whether they qualify for financial assistance.
Kentuckians can enroll through kynect health coverage , Kentucky’s official health insurance Marketplace. Open enrollment for Plan Year 2027 runs from Nov. 1, 2026, through Jan. 15, 2027 .
Residents who enroll by Dec. 15 can have coverage begin Jan. 1. Those enrolling from Dec. 16 through Jan. 15 generally receive coverage beginning Feb. 1. Medicaid and KCHIP enrollment remains available year round for people who qualify.
What Kentucky residents should check Louisville area residents and consumers statewide should compare monthly health insurance premiums, deductibles, co pays, out of pocket maximums, prescription drug coverage and whether preferred doctors and hospitals remain in network.
Consumers should also update their expected 2027 household income and family information because those details can affect eligibility for premium tax credits, cost sharing reductions and other payment assistance.
Kentucky officials say kynect allows residents to compare health insurance options and determine whether they qualify for financial help that can reduce the cost of coverage.
Kentucky Marketplace plans vary by county Health insurance choices through kynect can vary depending on where a resident lives.
Kentucky’s Marketplace says consumers may have different insurers and plan choices based on their county, making location specific comparison important before renewing existing coverage.
For 2027, kynect lists Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Ambetter by WellCare of Kentucky among the companies offering Qualified Health Plans through the Marketplace. Availability of individual plans can vary by location.
Residents should confirm that doctors, hospitals and prescription drugs they regularly use remain covered before selecting a new plan.
Premiums can change for 2027 Kentucky insurers submitted new individual market health insurance rates for 2027, but consumers should be cautious about relying on early proposed increases because state regulators review rate filings before they become final.
For example, Anthem initially requested a 16.91% increase in its base rate for one individual market filing effective Jan. 1, 2027. The Kentucky Department of Insurance filing available earlier this year listed that request as pending rather than an approved final increase.
Because a base rate change is not the same as an individual consumer’s premium increase, actual costs can differ based on age, geographic area, plan selection and other factors.
Kentucky’s Department of Insurance reviews health insurance rate filings and requires additional scrutiny when insurers seek significant increases.
Enrollment deadlines matter Kentucky residents who want health insurance coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2027 , should enroll through kynect by Dec. 15 .
Open enrollment continues through Jan. 15, 2027 . Residents who enroll from Dec. 16 through Jan. 15 generally receive coverage beginning Feb. 1.
After open enrollment ends, most consumers need a qualifying life event to enroll in or change a Qualified Health Plan through a Special Enrollment Period.
Qualifying events can include getting married, having a child, moving to Kentucky or losing other health insurance coverage.
Kentucky residents can compare 2027 health insurance plans, determine whether they qualify for payment assistance and enroll through kynect health coverage .
