Louisville, KY – Residents across central Kentucky and southern Indiana should prepare for a soaking rainfall event beginning Tuesday night, Nov. 3, as an approaching weather system brings gusty showers, locally heavy downpours and the possibility of rainfall totals exceeding 3 inches in isolated locations.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.75 inches are expected across much of the region through Wednesday, with higher totals favored across southern areas.
Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Gusts Expected Forecasters warn that some locations could receive more than 3 inches of rainfall, although the probability of flooding remains low because of ongoing drought conditions.
The approaching system follows an unusually warm Tuesday, with afternoon temperatures reaching 77 to 80 degrees, approaching record levels for early November.
Southerly winds will increase throughout Tuesday, producing gusts of 20 to 30 mph.
The National Weather Service also identifies a 20% to 30% chance of localized, sporadic wind gusts exceeding 40 mph Tuesday night into Wednesday.
These stronger gusts could create difficult driving conditions, particularly for high profile vehicles traveling along exposed highways.
Rain Expected to Continue Into Wednesday Showers will become more widespread Tuesday night, when temperatures remain unusually mild, with lows between 62 and 65 degrees.
Rain and gusty winds will continue Wednesday before gradually diminishing from west to east during the afternoon.
Wednesday afternoon temperatures are expected to reach 69 to 72 degrees.
By Thursday, conditions should improve, with partly cloudy skies and highs between 67 and 71 degrees.
Friday will bring slightly cooler weather, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 64 to 69 degrees.
Although widespread flooding is not anticipated, residents should remain alert for localized heavy rainfall, especially in areas receiving repeated showers.
Drivers should allow additional travel time during periods of heavier rainfall and monitor changing road conditions.
