Jackson, KY – Eastern Kentucky is set for several more days of quiet weather, but conditions could change sharply this weekend as the remnants of Tropical Storm Isaias potentially move into the Ohio River Valley.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, forecasters are monitoring Isaias for possible rainy and breezy conditions across Kentucky Saturday into Sunday. Specific local impacts remain uncertain Wednesday morning because the storm is still days away.
Aside from typical overnight and early morning river valley fog, eastern Kentucky should remain relatively quiet through Friday. Temperatures are expected to climb from the upper 70s Wednesday to the lower and middle 80s Friday.
Attention then turns south toward Isaias.
The National Weather Service said remnants of what is forecast to become Hurricane Isaias could track into the Ohio River Valley this weekend, increasing rain chances across Kentucky.
For the Jackson area, rain chances rise to between 40% and 80% Saturday before reaching approximately 90% Sunday , according to the Wednesday morning forecast graphic. Sunday's temperatures could also turn noticeably cooler, with highs around 70 to 74 degrees.
Potentially breezy conditions could accompany the rain as the tropical system moves northward.
Forecasters stressed that it remains too early to determine specific rainfall, wind or other impacts for eastern Kentucky. Changes to Isaias' eventual track and strength could significantly affect the weekend forecast.
Residents across Jackson, Breathitt County, eastern Kentucky and the broader Ohio River Valley should monitor updated forecasts as the weekend approaches, especially if they have outdoor or travel plans Saturday or Sunday.
