Jackson, KY – Eastern Kentucky will turn drier through midweek, with the coldest sheltered valleys potentially dropping into the 30s Monday night, Oct. 5.
The National Weather Service in Jackson said Sunday evening that drier air will move into the region as lingering clouds clear, bringing pleasant early autumn temperatures. Clouds will hold on longest across southeastern Kentucky.
Monday morning could begin with areas of fog before sunshine develops. Afternoon highs are forecast to range from 71 to 76 degrees across eastern Kentucky.
The most notable part of the forecast arrives Monday night. The NWS shows lows generally ranging from 38 to 47 degrees, but forecasters said the most sheltered and shaded valleys could fall into the 30s.
The forecast does not specifically call for frost or freezing temperatures, so the expected valley chill should not be characterized as a frost or freeze event based on the current outlook.
Another round of morning fog is possible Tuesday before skies turn sunny. Highs are expected to range from 70 to 79 degrees, followed by nighttime lows of 41 to 51.
No significant precipitation is indicated through the period shown.
For eastern Kentucky, Monday night's temperatures will be the main forecast feature to watch, particularly in colder sheltered valleys where readings could fall into the 30s.
