Wichita, KS – Residents across Wichita and surrounding south central Kansas communities can expect an extended stretch of mild, mostly dry weather heading into the weekend, with afternoon temperatures holding in the middle to upper 70s through Saturday, October 24. However, the forecast begins changing Sunday as rain chances return and daytime temperatures drop into the lower 70s.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, temperatures will reach approximately 76 degrees Wednesday before climbing to 78 degrees Thursday. Mostly sunny conditions are expected Friday and Saturday, with highs near 76 degrees both days, providing several opportunities for outdoor activities before unsettled weather begins returning.
Warm Weather Holds Across South Central Kansas A developing upper level ridge across the central United States is expected to support above average to well above average temperatures across portions of the region through the weekend.
The National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center identifies the expanding ridge as a major influence on the central United States weather pattern.
For Wichita, the local forecast supports several consecutive afternoons in the 70s, with overnight temperatures generally remaining in the middle to upper 50s.
Communities across Sedgwick County, including Wichita, Derby, Haysville and nearby suburbs, can expect broadly similar regional weather influences, although exact temperatures may vary by location.

Rain Chances Increase Early Next Week The National Weather Service forecast indicates a more noticeable change Monday, October 26, when Wichita faces a 50% chance of showers and a high near 68 degrees.
That represents an 8 degree decline from Saturday's forecast high, signaling a cooler start to the new workweek.
Additional showers remain possible Monday night and Tuesday, although precipitation probabilities decrease to 30% and 20%, respectively.
Extended Outlook Favors Above Normal Temperatures NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlook for October 28 through November 3 favors above normal temperatures across Kansas.
The same outlook indicates increased probabilities of above normal precipitation across the state during that period.
These extended outlooks describe broader temperature and precipitation trends rather than specific daily conditions.
For Wichita residents, the immediate forecast remains favorable for outdoor plans through Saturday, while Sunday afternoon and Monday deserve closer attention as shower chances increase.
