Wichita, KS – Rain chances are returning to portions of Kansas beginning Sunday night, with scattered showers expected through early Tuesday as temperatures gradually cool from near 80 degrees into the lower 70s.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the greatest potential for showers will remain west of the Flint Hills, affecting portions of central and south central Kansas from Sunday, Oct. 25, through Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Rain Chances Increase Sunday Night
Sunday will begin with mild conditions across much of the region, with afternoon temperatures reaching 76 to 80 degrees.
Clouds will increase as the day progresses, with showers developing late Sunday afternoon and evening across central Kansas.
Rain chances will continue into Monday, although forecasters describe the expected activity as scattered, hit or miss showers rather than widespread rainfall.
Communities including Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, Great Bend and Russell could experience changing conditions as showers move through the region.
Areas farther east toward the Flint Hills are expected to see less precipitation.
Cooler Temperatures Arrive Monday and Tuesday
Monday's afternoon highs will range from 71 to 77 degrees, with overnight lows generally between 54 and 58 degrees.
By Tuesday, temperatures will cool slightly further, with highs ranging from 70 to 74 degrees.
Showers could linger into early Tuesday morning before rain chances gradually diminish.
Overnight lows heading into Tuesday are forecast between 51 and 57 degrees.
Despite the approaching showers, temperatures will remain relatively mild for late October.
Drivers should prepare for occasional wet pavement during the Monday morning commute, particularly where scattered showers develop.
Rainfall coverage and timing may vary considerably between communities, meaning some locations could receive rain while nearby areas remain mostly dry.
