Davenport, IA – Eastern Iowa and western Illinois are heading into an extended stretch of pleasant October weather beginning Sunday, Oct. 18, with sunshine, breezy conditions and a gradual warmup that could bring widespread temperatures in the 70s by Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, afternoon temperatures Sunday will reach the middle to upper 60s, accompanied by occasional southwest wind gusts around 25 mph.
The forecast covers communities across the Quad Cities metropolitan area, including Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, along with Rock Island and Moline, Illinois.
What can residents expect Sunday?
Sunny skies will dominate the region Sunday, with afternoon highs generally reaching the middle to upper 60s.
Southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph are expected, with occasional gusts reaching approximately 25 mph.
Temperatures will fall into the lower 40s Sunday night, bringing another chilly October evening.
When will the warmer weather arrive?
Monday, Oct. 19, will bring another sunny day, with highs remaining in the middle to upper 60s.
Winds will become lighter, generally from the south at 5 to 10 mph.
By Tuesday, Oct. 20, afternoon temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 60s and lower 70s, continuing the warming trend.
The National Weather Service expects widespread highs in the 70s by Thursday, Oct. 22, with temperatures rising above seasonal averages.
Will rain interrupt the warmup?
Dry conditions are expected to continue through the upcoming workweek, providing favorable weather for outdoor activities, commuting and fall agricultural operations.
Looking farther ahead, NOAA's Oct. 25–31 precipitation outlook favors above normal precipitation across much of Iowa and western Illinois, suggesting rain chances could eventually increase.
However, the longer range outlook does not identify a specific rainy day or guarantee precipitation during Halloween weekend.
For now, the Quad Cities and surrounding communities can expect several days of sunshine, lighter winds after Sunday and increasingly mild afternoon temperatures through Thursday
