South Bend, IN – A chilly Sunday night is ahead for northern Indiana, but a noticeable warmup will follow as sunshine and dry weather dominate the upcoming week. Temperatures could climb into the lower 70s by Wednesday, Oct. 21, offering several comfortable autumn afternoons after overnight readings dip into the 30s.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, high pressure will remain over the region through Friday, Oct. 23, bringing mainly sunny skies, light winds and gradually increasing temperatures through midweek.
The six day forecast issued early Sunday, Oct. 18, shows a steady warming trend across communities including South Bend, Elkhart, Warsaw and Fort Wayne.
How warm will Indiana get this week?
Sunday afternoon highs are expected to range from 58 to 65 degrees, followed by overnight lows between 34 and 38 degrees.
Monday, Oct. 19, brings warmer conditions, with highs climbing to 63 to 69 degrees.
By Tuesday, temperatures could reach 65 to 71 degrees before peaking between 66 and 73 degrees Wednesday.
Thursday, Oct. 22, should remain similarly mild, with highs between 67 and 73 degrees.
Will rain interrupt the warmup?
The National Weather Service expects high pressure to maintain pleasant October weather throughout the week.
Mainly sunny skies are forecast Sunday through Wednesday, with some additional clouds possible Thursday before sunshine continues Friday.
Light winds should accompany the dry pattern, providing favorable conditions for outdoor activities, fall travel and yardwork.
Overnight temperatures will gradually moderate, climbing from the 30s early in the week into the 40s by Thursday night.
Looking ahead: NOAA's Oct. 25 31 outlook favors above normal temperatures across Indiana, suggesting the possibility of continued mild weather heading toward Halloween.
For now, northern Indiana residents can expect a dry, increasingly warm week, with afternoon temperatures approaching the lower 70s and little indication of significant weather disruptions.
