South Bend, IN – Residents across northern Indiana should prepare for another round of scattered rain Thursday and Friday before colder morning temperatures arrive Saturday, with some communities potentially dropping to the freezing mark.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, showers Wednesday evening will gradually dissipate before additional rain develops Thursday, spreading from northwest to southeast across northern Indiana and southwestern Lower Michigan.
Wednesday night temperatures are expected to remain relatively mild, ranging from 46 to 50 degrees across the forecast area as the initial round of showers comes to an end.
Thursday will bring increasing chances of rain, ranging from 30% to 60%, with afternoon highs between 55 and 61 degrees.
The approaching showers could affect portions of the South Bend metropolitan area, including communities throughout St. Joseph County and neighboring Elkhart County.
Scattered showers will remain possible Thursday night as temperatures fall between 39 and 42 degrees.
By Friday, additional rain chances of 30% to 50% are forecast, with the greatest likelihood of precipitation near Lake Michigan.
Afternoon temperatures Friday will be cooler, ranging from 49 to 53 degrees.
Drivers traveling along Interstate 80/90 and other major northern Indiana highways should remain alert for wet pavement during periods of rainfall.
A noticeable change arrives Saturday as drier conditions return across the region.
Saturday morning temperatures are forecast to fall between 32 and 36 degrees, bringing near freezing conditions to some communities.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants may want to monitor local temperatures, particularly in areas expected to reach 32 degrees.
Despite the chilly start, Saturday afternoon should feature partly sunny skies and highs between 50 and 53 degrees.
