South Bend, IN – Widespread rain will spread across northern Indiana and southwest Lower Michigan tonight, with 0.50 to 1.50 inches expected before conditions improve Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, showers will increase in coverage and intensity across northwest Indiana and southwest Lower Michigan early this evening. Rain will then spread southeast across the remainder of the region overnight into Friday morning.
Widespread rainfall totals of 0.50 to 1.25 inches are expected, while localized amounts exceeding 1.50 inches are possible. The NWS forecast graphic shows some areas near South Bend, La Porte, Benton Harbor and Three Rivers potentially receiving 1 to 1.5 inches.
An isolated thunderstorm is also possible tonight. Rain chances are listed at 80% to 100%, with overnight lows ranging from 53 to 60 degrees.
The heavier rainfall could leave some ponding water on roads for the Friday morning commute, according to the NWS. Drivers should be prepared for wet roads and locally reduced travel conditions where heavier rain occurs.
Conditions will improve progressively Friday, drying out from northwest to southeast from the morning into early afternoon. Highs are forecast from 63 to 67 degrees.
Friday night will turn considerably cooler, with lows between 40 and 46 degrees.
The weekend is expected to remain dry and seasonably cool. Saturday highs will range from 63 to 68 degrees under partly sunny skies, while Sunday temperatures are forecast from 61 to 72 degrees.
Residents should expect the wettest conditions tonight into Friday morning, followed by improving weather Friday and a quieter, dry weekend.
