South Bend, IN – Northern Indiana residents can expect a chilly and occasionally wet start to the weekend as lake effect rain showers continue Friday, November 6, into Saturday morning, followed by overnight temperatures that could approach freezing in some communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, lake effect rain showers will primarily affect areas west of Indiana State Road 15, with the greatest potential for precipitation closer to Lake Michigan.
Friday will feature cool and breezy conditions, with afternoon highs ranging from 48 to 52 degrees across the forecast region.
Overnight temperatures are expected to fall between 33 and 40 degrees, bringing a noticeably colder feel to communities across northern Indiana.
Lake effect rain showers may continue into early Saturday, particularly in areas near Lake Michigan, before precipitation gradually diminishes.
Saturday will remain mostly cloudy and cool, with afternoon temperatures again reaching approximately 48 to 52 degrees.
The coldest temperatures in the weekend forecast are expected Saturday night into Sunday morning, when lows could fall between 31 and 39 degrees.
Some inland locations may briefly reach freezing, potentially affecting sensitive outdoor vegetation.
Residents with vulnerable plants should monitor local temperature forecasts and consider protecting them where freezing conditions are expected.

However, widespread heavy rainfall or significant winter precipitation is not indicated in the current outlook.

Sunday afternoon highs are forecast to reach 55 to 61 degrees, providing a noticeable warmup compared with Friday and Saturday.
Sunday night temperatures should remain somewhat milder, ranging from 34 to 41 degrees.
