SOUTH BEND, IN – Northern Indiana residents can expect another unusually warm October day Tuesday before a noticeable weather shift brings cooler temperatures and several rounds of rain through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, unseasonably warm conditions will continue through Tuesday, Oct. 13, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the 80s before a cooling trend develops across the region.
Tuesday's forecast calls for highs between 82 and 89 degrees, accompanied by breezy conditions and partly cloudy skies.
The unusually warm temperatures will give way to increasing rain chances beginning Tuesday night as a changing weather pattern moves into the area.
Rain Chances Increase Wednesday and Thursday
The National Weather Service forecasts a 40% to 70% chance of rain Wednesday, with temperatures ranging from 69 to 78 degrees.
By Thursday, Oct. 15, rain chances increase to 50% to 80%, making it the wettest day in the current forecast.
Thursday afternoon highs are expected to range from 63 to 71 degrees, marking a substantial cooldown compared with Tuesday's near 90 degree temperatures.
The changing conditions could affect outdoor activities and travel, particularly during periods of heavier rainfall.
Cooler Nights Ahead
Overnight temperatures will also drop as cooler air moves into northern Indiana.
Tuesday night lows are forecast between 58 and 66 degrees, followed by Wednesday night temperatures between 48 and 58 degrees.
By Thursday night, temperatures could fall to between 48 and 55 degrees.
Before the wetter pattern arrives, forecasters indicate a 10% to 20% chance of isolated showers or storms north of the Michigan state line Monday night.
While the current forecast highlights periodic rain, the National Weather Service has not identified a specific severe weather threat in this update.
Residents across northern Indiana should monitor changing forecasts and prepare for wet roads and cooler conditions during the middle of the week.
