Rensselaer, IN – A deadly rollover crash on Interstate 65 in northwest Indiana claimed the life of a 66 year old man Monday after his SUV crossed the median, overturned and landed in the northbound lanes near Rensselaer.
According to Indiana State Police, troopers responded Monday, Oct. 12, to a rollover crash near mile marker 216 on I 65 in Jasper County, approximately one mile north of the Rensselaer exit.
Investigators identified the driver as Charles D. Cox, 66, of LaPorte, Indiana. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle.
SUV Crossed Median and Overturned Into Oncoming Lanes
Preliminary findings indicate Cox was driving a 1998 Ford SUV southbound on I 65 while towing a boat when the vehicle entered the median at a high rate of speed for reasons that remain unknown.
Police said the SUV rolled over, causing the boat and trailer to separate from the vehicle.
The detached boat and trailer came to rest against the median cable barrier on the northbound side of the interstate.
The SUV continued across the cable barrier before overturning and coming to rest on its roof in the middle of the northbound lanes.
Authorities have not released additional details about what caused the driver to lose control.

D1 Towing also assisted at the scene.
Indiana State Police confirmed that Cox's family has been notified.
The agency did not specify how long the northbound lanes were affected or whether any other vehicles were involved.
