Indiana Train Crash: Vehicle Collides with CSX Train on State Road 149 in Porter County

Porter County, IN –  Authorities have reported a significant traffic disruption on State Road 149 following a collision involving a vehicle and a train. The incident, which occurred early this morning, has led to the closure of the road between U.S. 20 and U.S. 6, urging motorists to find alternate routes.

According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 5:50 a.m. on December 28, 2023, a Dodge Dakota truck traveling southbound on State Road 149 collided with a CSX train at the railroad tracks near 976 N State Road 49. The collision caused the vehicle to roll over and catch fire. 

First responders were able to extract the occupant from the truck, who was then transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. 

The Porter County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Portage Police Department, Burns Harbor Police Department, and Portage Fire, is currently investigating the crash alongside CSX Railroad. The public is advised to avoid the area and seek alternative travel routes during the ongoing investigation.
