Newberry, IN – Drivers traveling Interstate 69 in Daviess County should prepare for weeks of lane restrictions beginning Wednesday as crews start patching and bridge overlay work near Newberry.
According to the Indiana State Police Jasper Post, lane closures are scheduled to begin on or around Wednesday, Oct. 14, along I 69 between County Road 900 East and County Road 25 West.
The restrictions will affect the driving lane in both the northbound and southbound directions. One lane will remain open while crews complete the work, according to information released by the Indiana Department of Transportation.
The project is expected to continue through mid November, although weather conditions could affect the construction schedule.
With work occurring in both directions, motorists traveling through Daviess County should anticipate changing traffic patterns and potential slowdowns near the construction zone. Drivers commuting through the area or using I 69 for longer trips may want to allow additional travel time.
The affected stretch is near Newberry, roughly 30 miles north of the Washington, Indiana, area and along a major north south interstate corridor connecting communities across southwestern Indiana.
INDOT reminds motorists approaching highway construction zones to reduce their speed, watch for workers and equipment, use additional caution and avoid distracted driving.
Drivers should also pay close attention to temporary signs and lane markings as work progresses through the coming weeks.
Because the project schedule is weather dependent, motorists planning to travel I 69 through Daviess County should monitor INDOT and local law enforcement updates for possible changes to lane restrictions.
