La Porte, IN – Drivers who use U.S. 35 in La Porte County have an opportunity Thursday to weigh in on a proposed roundabout that could change traffic flow at the Johnson and Severs Road intersection.
According to INDOT Northwest, a public hearing on the proposed intersection improvement will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, at the La Porte County Public Library Main Branch, 904 Indiana Ave.
An open house with the project team begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation at 6 p.m. A public comment session will follow the presentation.
The proposal calls for a hybrid multilane roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 35 and Johnson/Severs Road on the north side of La Porte.
The intersection sits along a key U.S. 35 corridor north of central La Porte, near State Road 39. Any future construction at the location could be especially relevant to residents and commuters who regularly travel between La Porte and communities across northern La Porte County.
Thursday's meeting gives residents a chance to learn more about the proposal directly from the project team before offering feedback.
People unable to attend in person can also follow the hearing through a livestream provided by INDOT.
Project documents are available online at bit.ly/US35JohnsonSevers , while the livestream can be accessed at bit.ly/US35JohnsonSeversHearing .
The hearing will be held in Meeting Room B at the library's main branch.
Motorists should note that INDOT's announcement concerns a proposed roundabout and public hearing. The agency's notice does not indicate that construction is beginning Thursday.
