La Porte County, IN – A 36 year old La Porte woman has died and two other people were injured following a two vehicle crash on State Road 2 in La Porte County, authorities said.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff ’s Office, deputies were called around 1:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, to State Road 2 east of County Road 900 West for a reported motor vehicle crash.
Investigators said a red 2010 Kia driven by 60 year old Ronald O. Nulest of Medaryville was traveling westbound on State Road 2. A red 2017 Ford driven by 36 year old Kayla M. Roche of La Porte was heading eastbound.
A witness traveling behind the Kia told deputies the vehicle had been following a FedEx truck before it suddenly crossed left of center and collided with the Ford, according to the sheriff’s office.
Nulest was injured and transported to a regional hospital for treatment. His passenger, identified by authorities as 88 year old Elvin L. Nulest of Francesville, was also injured and taken to a regional hospital.
Roche suffered injuries in the collision and was transported for medical treatment. Deputies said they later learned she had died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities did not provide additional information about the conditions of Ronald or Elvin Nulest in the initial release.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing. No further information was immediately released about what may have caused the Kia to cross the centerline.
Drivers traveling through the area of State Road 2 and County Road 900 West should remain alert as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.
