La Porte, IN – Drivers and residents in La Porte County will get a chance Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, to review a proposed major change to the intersection of U.S. 35 and Johnson/Severs Road in Northwest Indiana.
According to INDOT Northwest , the agency is planning a public hearing on a proposal to convert the existing signalized intersection into a hybrid multilane roundabout , a design intended to improve safety at the location.
The hearing will be held at the La Porte County Public Library Main Branch, Meeting Room B, 904 Indiana Ave. in La Porte .
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. so members of the public can view project displays and speak with the project team. A formal presentation is scheduled for 6 p.m. , followed immediately by a public comment session.
INDOT said a livestream option will also be available for people who cannot attend in person.
The proposed project centers on the U.S. 35 intersection with Johnson and Severs roads, northwest of central La Porte. The agency’s announcement says the current signalized intersection would be modified into a hybrid multilane roundabout if the proposal moves forward.
The hearing gives residents, commuters and nearby property owners an opportunity to learn more about the design and provide input before the project advances further.
INDOT did not include construction dates or anticipated traffic restrictions in the public notice shown Thursday. Those details could become clearer as the project moves through the planning process.
