La Porte County, IN Crash Update: 2nd Person Dies After SR 2 Wreck

La Porte County, IN – A second person has died from injuries suffered in a Sept. 25 crash on State Road 2 in La Porte County, authorities announced Wednesday.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff ’s Office , detectives learned Tuesday that 88 year old Elvin L. Nuest of Francesville died from injuries sustained in the Friday collision. The crash had already resulted in the death of another driver.
Deputies responded at approximately 1:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 , to State Road 2 east of County Road 900 West for a motor vehicle crash.
Investigators said a red 2010 Kia, driven by 60 year old Ronald O. Nuest of Medaryville , was traveling westbound on SR 2. A red 2017 Ford, driven by 36 year old Kayla M. Roche of La Porte , was traveling eastbound.
A witness traveling behind the Kia told deputies the vehicle was following a FedEx truck before it suddenly traveled left of center and collided with the Ford, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ronald Nuest was injured and transported to a regional hospital. Elvin Nuest, who was a passenger in the Kia, was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Roche was injured in the collision and transported to a regional hospital. Deputies later learned that she died from her injuries.
Authorities have now confirmed Elvin Nuest also died as a result of injuries from the crash, bringing the reported death toll to two.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division continues to investigate the collision. Officials said Wednesday that the investigation remains open and ongoing.
