Kentland, IN – Firefighters were dispatched to a structural blaze at A Stitch in Time Antique Shop located at 402 W. Seymour Street early Monday morning. The fire was reported at approximately 4:02 a.m., drawing a coordinated response from multiple area agencies to manage the scene and protect nearby structures.
According to the Kentland Jefferson Township Fire Department , crews arriving at the scene observed flames emitting from the front of the antique shop. A single female occupant was inside the building at the time of the incident but was able to safely exit the structure.
She reportedly sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation. Fire Chief Matt Wittenborn confirmed that the fire was brought under control following an intensive effort by local responders.
While the primary objective of containing the blaze was achieved, the official cause of the fire remains under investigation. The building sustained visible damage during the incident.
The response effort involved significant inter agency cooperation, including units from the Newton County Sheriff 's Department, Brook Fire Department , Goodland Fire Department, Morocco Fire Department, and Sheldon Fire Department. Newton County Ambulance and Newton County Dispatch also assisted at the scene.
Local businesses, including Casey's General Store and McDonald's, provided food and refreshments to support the crews during the overnight operation. Chief Wittenborn expressed his appreciation for the collaborating departments and local supporters.
