Indianapolis, IN – A months long homicide investigation into the fatal shooting of a 16 year old boy on Indianapolis' northwest side has reached a major development after detectives arrested the third and final identified suspect Wednesday, Oct. 14.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department IMPD , detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit arrested a 15 year old boy wanted in connection with the May 24 killing. Two additional suspects, ages 17 and 19, were previously arrested in late August.
All three face charges of murder, armed robbery and firearms offenses stemming from the investigation.
The fatal shooting occurred Sunday, May 24, at approximately 7:45 p.m. in the 5700 block of Renn Lane.
Officers responding to reports of a person shot discovered a 16 year old male in the hallway of an apartment building suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
IMPD homicide detectives launched an investigation, collecting forensic evidence, reviewing available video footage and interviewing potential witnesses.
Through witness information and investigative techniques, authorities identified three males allegedly involved in the killing.
Detectives presented their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, which issued arrest warrants for the suspects on murder and armed robbery charges.
The 17 year old and 19 year old suspects were taken into custody in late August.
The investigation continued until Wednesday, when Violent Crimes Unit detectives located the remaining 15 year old suspect and arrested him on his outstanding warrant.
Police have not released additional details about what allegedly led to the shooting or the circumstances surrounding the suspected armed robbery.
The arrests mark a significant development in the investigation into the teenager's death, which occurred nearly five months ago.
All three defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
